Kinds of Genre
There are 12 models of Genre such as Recount, Report, Discussion, Explanation, Narrative, Procedure, Description, Review, Exposition (Analytical), Exposition (Hortatory), New Item, and Anecdote.
Recount based on Social function is to retell events for the purpose of informing or entertaining. Recount based on Generic Structure, there are three (3) points to make a recount, which is (1) Orientation; provides the setting and introduces participants, (2) Events; tell what happened, in what sequence, (3) Re-orientation; optional-closure of events.

Report based on Social function is to describe the way thing are, with reference to a range of natural, man-made and social phenomena in Indonesia environment. Report based on Generic Structure is (1) General classification; tell what the phenomenon under discussion is, (2) Description; tell what the phenomenon under discussion is like in term of (a) parts, (b) qualities, (c) habits or behavior, if living; uses, if non-natural.

Discussion based on Social function is to present (at least) two (2) points of view about an issue. Discussion based on Generic Structure is there outline on discussion such (1) issue; statement and preview, (2) Arguments for and against or Statement of differing points of view such as Point and Elaboration, (3) Conclusion or Recommendation.

Explanation based on Social function is to explain the process involved in the formation or workings of natural or sociocultural phenomena. Explanation based on Generic Structure is a general statement to position the reader and a sequenced explanation of why or how something occurs.

Narrative based on Social function is to amuse, entertain and to deal with actual or various experience in different ways; Narrative deal with problematic events which lead to a crisis or turning point of some kind, which in turn finds a resolution. Narrative based on Generic Structure which there are some steps on make a narrative such (1) Orientation; sets the scene and introduces the participants, (2) Evaluation; a stepping back to evaluate the plight, (3) Complication; a crisis arises, (4) Resolution; the crisis is resolved, for better or for worse, and (5) Re-orientation; optional.

Procedure based on Social function is to describe how something is accomplished through a sequence of actions or steps. Procedure based on Generic Structure is (1) goal, (2) Materials (not required for all Procedure texts), and (3) Step 1-(i.e, Goal followed by a series of steps oriented to achieving the Goal).

Description based on Social function is to describe a particular person, place or thing. Description based on Generic Structure is (1) identification; identifies phenomenon to be described, (2) description; describes parts, qualities, characters.

Review based on Social function is to critique an art, event for a public audience, such works of art include movies, TV shows, books, plays, operas, recordings, exhibitions, concerts, and ballets. Review based on Generic Structure is (1) Orientation, places the work in its general and particular context, often by comparing it with others of its kind or through analogue with a non-art object or event.

Exposition (Analytical) based on Social function is to persuade the reader or listener that something's the case. Exposition based on Generic Structure is (1) thesis; (a) Position; Introduces topic and indicates writer's position, (b) Preview; Outlines the main arguments to be presented, (2) Argument, (a) Point; restates main arguments outlines in Preview, (b) Elaboration; develops and support each Point/argument, (3) Reiteration; restates writer's position.

Exposition (Hortatory) based on Social function is to persuade the reader or listener that something should or should not be the case. Exposition based on Generic Structure is (1) thesis; announcement of issue concern, (2) argument; reasons for concern, leading to recommendation, (3) Recommendation; statement of what ought or ought not happen.

New Item based on Social function is to inform readers, listeners or viewers about events of the day which are considered newsworthy or important. New Item based on Generic structure is (1) Newsworthy Event(s); recounts the event in summary term, (2) Background Events; elaborate what happened, to whom, in what circumstances, (3) Sources; comments by participants in, witnesses to and authorities expert on the event.

Anecdote based on Social function is to share with others an account of an unusual or amusing incident. Anecdote based on Generic Structure is (1) Abstract; signals the retelling of an unusual incident, (2) Orientation; sets the scene, (3) Crisis; provides details of the unusual incident, (4) Reaction; reaction to crises, and (5) Coda; optional-reflection on or evaluation of the incident.
