Atkinson Samuel "Sam" Waterston (born November 15, 1940) is an American actor and producer and occasional director, noted especially for Academy Award-nominated portrayal of Sydney Schanberg in his 1984, The Killing Fields, and his Golden Globe-and Screen Actors Guild award-winning portrayal of Jack McCoy in NBC television series Law & Order. He has been nominated for several Golden Globe-,-Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA and Emmy Awards, after starring in more than eighty film and television production during the five-forty-year career. All movie Waterston has been marked "embed faithfully with his quietly charismatic, always solid performances." In January 2010, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
